Shaun's Learning Lab Profile

Who I Am
I'm Shaun Noonan and I primarily teach 7th and 8th grade students at Peoples Academy Middle Level in Morrisville, Vermont.  I feel lucky to be a part of such a hardworking and caring faculty that is willing to take on anything to try to enhance students' learning opportunities.

A Few Pivotal Moments

Our Learning Lab’s Inquiry Question(s):
  • How does personalization (done correctly [a question many colleagues are still looking for]) affect our school climate and culture?
  • How do we institutionalize a system where students can demonstrate "core class" proficiencies outside of the traditional brick and mortar classroom.

Our Findings So Far
  • So far we've been meeting quite a bit and framing our ideas.  I think that we'd be a little bit further along but we've had to reallocate some time that would have previously been set aside for thoughtful deliberation with students in order to nail down some other very important initiatives (primarily the proficiency reports [the new report cards]).
    We believe that there is a need for students to find ways to demonstrate proficiency in new and innovative ways--outside the confines of the typical school day.  We're in the process of figuring out what that would look like for us.
